Even though I am in the midst of finals and applying for a French visa I have still somehow found time to bake. I think it keeps me sane during end-of-the-semester chaos. At least that is my excuse for making 40 mini eggnog donuts at 12 am last night.
I tried two different recipes
because I didn’t want to stop baking to make sure I came up with the perfect donut. I would recommend the vanilla eggnog donut recipe from Averie Cooks. And the eggnog glaze recipe from Tracey’s Culinary Adventures. Over all they created fluffy, moist donuts with rich eggnog flavor. Perfect for the holiday season!
We went up to Boulder for my baby brother’s 19th birthday and ate at Pizzeria Locale. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take a picture of the pizza because I was so eager to dig in (sometimes I also get embarrassed of pulling out my massive camera in front of the waiter). Pizzeria Locale has the absolute best pizza in the entire world. All their ingredients are imported from Italy so Jumbo Slice doesn’t stand a chance in comparison. Just the margarita pizza is out of this world, the tomato sauce is just so deliciously sweet. I highly recommend it. After the meal we shopped for the birthday boy and stopped by Cured for some Cowgirl Creamery cheese. We’ve definitely had two straight days of absolutely delicious food… its hard to want to go home with all these leftovers in Denver!
I am in Denver again for Thanksgiving and with all this free time my obvious priority is to
catch up on work bake! I am going to bake straight until my parents kick me out of the kitchen (which is often because the kitchen aid is loud and I usually make a mess.. one benefit of living alone).
I started off with a pumpkin miniature doughnut because I saw the recipe and they looked so tiny and adorable that I couldn’t resist. The flavors are amazing and even though they are baked, after they are dipped in butter and sugar they taste like they are straight out of the frier. The finished product is so drenched in butter and caked with sugar that even Paula Deen would be proud. Find the delicious (and easy) recipe here.
Last night I baked for the first time with Midnight Bite, the brainchild of some of my close friends. The basic concept is that for three dollars they will deliver the baked good of the night right to your door!
Last night I made triple layered rice krispy treats and pumpkin whoopie pies. The rice krispy bars were one layer of fruity pebbles, one layer of rice krispies and one layer of lucky charms. All dipped in white chocolate. Pretty over the top!
Next time I plan on making caramel stuffed brownies so make sure you check out their Facebook page and order them before they run out!
My new favorite trick is rolling cupcake frosting into a bowl of sprinkles. This gives the cupcake such a delicious crunch that is really irresistible. Also if the frosting is less than perfect, they hide every flaw. And lets face it they look pretty freakin’ cute.
These photos are from my trip back home to Denver. I completely forgot to upload them but it’s never too late for a little food porn. While I was home, I got a chance to visit the revamped, and reopened Squeaky Bean. I was absolutely blown away by not only the food, but the over all experience. The service was top notch and I couldn’t have asked for a better night out with my foodie father.

Lemon and blueberry semiffredo with lemon meringues. One of the best desserts I’ve ever had because the textures were so unique. Salivating just thinking about it right now…
After dinner we walked around down town and admired everyone’s costumes at the zombie walk. My dad really to get involved and asked these festive people to pose with him. You can be the judge of how many drinks he had at dinner after you’ve seeing this picture.
This Tuesday DC really was the place to be. The energy at the White House was amazing as every one celebrated the reelection of our President. Although I won’t be here for the inaugural ball I am so happy I got to be here for the election. As GW students we are so lucky to be experiencing this exciting time.
